Why do you think they can settle in a horror setting if they’re under 18?: Tsubakiko comes from a horror canon! She’s also experienced a lot of horrific events in her lifetime, and suffers from frequent waking nightmares almost daily.
Canon Abilities/Powers: Tsubakiko is an exceptionally skilled fighter, holding a fearsome reputation even among delinquents for her fighting prowess. However, her ability doesn’t extend beyond natural human limits, and she is still just a teenager.
And this isn’t exactly an ability, but I figured that this was the best place to put it – Tsubakiko is under the influence of a curse. Due to the cursed soot in her body, her spiritual defenses are weakened, making her susceptible to “hauntings” from spirits that usually take the form of disturbing, nightmarish daydreams. She (mostly) forgets them once she wakes up from them.
The embodiment of the curse also lives inside her body, and is able in some circumstances to possess her body to use for itself. However, I assume that this wouldn't be possible in Upcycle, since I'm not sure if the curse would have to be apped as a separate character? It's a part of her, but also it's own person at the same time. I'll leave it up to you!
What is their greatest negative emotion towards an object, situation, or person in their past?: ( cw for child sexual abuse and rape. ) Tsubakiko’s greatest negative emotion towards her past is a tossup between her fear and her rage. They have both played a great role in defining her current personality, but her rage is probably the one that’s had the biggest influence on her as a whole. Tsubakiko’s fear and her anger both stem from the same situation in her past – when she was sexually assaulted and raped as a child by an adult man who used to be her “friend.” However, she’s repressed the memories of that incident, so she’s not actually aware of the fact that this is where her feelings of anger and where her trauma come from. Of course, even with her repressed memories, the incident affects her greatly.
How aware are they of this negative emotion, and how do they act on it in canon?: She’s very much aware of her anger, as it was the catalyst for her to join an all-female gang of delinquents in her youth. She became infamous among them, known as “Bakiko the Slaughterer”, and spent a lot of time fighting and beating up men who she saw as detestable. She held a deep anger towards men, and the world itself that still affects her today, though not in the same way as it used to. Nowadays, she’s ashamed of and embarrassed by that side of her, and is trying to put that part of herself in the past - but it’s not so easy. After all, she can’t stand back and let men bully and mistreat people as they please – and she still has a tendency to slip into mad fits of rage whenever somebody angers her for whatever reason.
Her fear, on the other hand, is something she’s less aware of. While she suffers from intense mental trauma as a result of what happened to her, she doesn’t actually know what the source of her fear is consciously. It’s her fear that’s actually the driving force for all of her anger, though, so the two emotions are inherently linked together, and it’s still something that has a big impact on her.
What is their greatest virtue?: Tsubakiko’s greatest virtue is probably her strength. This includes the strength it takes for her to stay cheerful and keep living, the strength it takes her to stay kind, and the strength it took for her to reclaim her childhood dream in spite of her trauma.
How aware are they of their virtue, and how do they act on it in canon?: She’s actually not very aware of just how strong she is. She wouldn’t consider herself a strong person, and is ashamed of how her trauma affects her/her anger – similarly, it’s hard for her to be aware of how strong she is for remaining cheerful when she doesn’t remember what her trauma actually is. Tsubakiko has the strength to stay kind in spite of all she’s been through, and even when she was a delinquent, the main targets of her anger were those who she thought were lowlives hurting others. Today, she’s someone who still manages to care about others, and while she’s certainly not perfect, she’s generally managed to maintain that caring attitude until today. She’s a cheerful girl who, for the most part, looks on the positive side of life and is determined to fulfill her dream.
Similarly, it took her a lot of strength to reclaim that dream from childhood to be the “perfect wife.” Even though this dream was used against her, to manipulate and do horrible things to her as a child, she’s still determined to see it through, and states that she won’t let anyone take that dream away from her.
Items: Her cellphone (mostly for the pictures on it), and her school uniform.
Samples: Here, and here!
Special Notes: It’s a little vague what Tsubakiko’s curse actually allows her to do in terms of abilities, and I’m still in the process of replaying the game and figuring out all the details. If I figure out something new after I’ve already apped her in, would it be okay to contact you and let you know in order to “update” her? Thank you!
